Welcome to our Math page!
Here, you will find information about the mathematical concepts that your child is currently learning in our class.
I will also post activities and work that your child has completed with Ms. Budd, who will be delivering additional math lessons to your child three times in our five day schedule.
September and October 2014
During the first two months of school, we will work on Number Sense & Numeration and Patterning.
Here are some of the big ideas that we will touch upon for Number Sense and Numeration:
Number Sense and Numeration
1. Counting forwards and backwards
2. Recognizing and representing small numbers in a variety of ways (e.g., singing number songs, using five and ten frames to represent small amounts, reading the date in our morning message, etc.)
Here are some of the big ideas that we will touch upon for Patterning:
Patterning
1. Identifying a simple pattern. (E.g., "This pattern goes 'horse, duck, pig, horse, duck, pig'. The pattern rule is 'horse, duck, pig', or 'ABC'.")
2. Extending a simple pattern. (E.g., "I know how to finish this pattern because the pig always comes after the duck.")
3. Creating a simple pattern. (E.g., "I made an 'ABC' pattern by using red, blue, and green stickers!")
